Director of Marketing Communications Opening

Director of Marketing and Communications

The position of Director of Marketing and Communications is a key staff position at the School of Advertising Art (SAA). The Director of Marketing and Communications will be responsible for fostering a culture of engagement with internal and external stakeholders by developing and implementing communication and marketing strategies across multiple platforms that promote SAA’s programs and initiatives.

This is an exciting time in SAA’s history. This Director of Marketing and Communications will be instrumental in the launch of the Bachelor’s Degree Completion Program and the promotion of a $17M campus expansion project.

Qualified candidates will have a passion for the arts, the advertising industry, and higher education. This position reports directly to the president. SAA’s art director and marketing coordinator report to this position.

Duties

  • Develop and execute integrated marketing campaigns
  • Maintain the SAA website and social media presence
  • Engage SAA’s stakeholders through various marketing strategies
  • Measure and report the effectiveness of marketing strategies to the president
  • Foster community engagement and represent SAA in the community
  • Coordinate external public relations (media relations, new releases, etc.)
  • Plan, execute, and attend SAA events
  • Meet the established goals set by SAA’s president
  • Maintain relationships with SAA students, prospective students, parents of students, alumni, staff, employers, and community supporters

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Business, or a related field
  • Five years of experience directing, writing, and editing a variety of communication pieces and implementing communications strategies
  • Proven excellent written communication skills, including accuracy and sensitivity to audience
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Capacity to supervise and collaborate with others to create communication materials
  • Knowledge of web analytics to measure effectiveness of social media and electronic marketing and communication plans
  • Communication experience in higher education
  • Experience in youth marketing
  • Experience with budget administration
  • Experience with content management and social media management systems

A joint program between the Better Business Bureau of Dayton/Miami Valley, Inc. and AAF-Dayton, the Advertising Review Council reviews locally run advertising to identify untruthful, misleading or deceptive practices.

Although most advertising is ethical, there are always a few people who don’t play by the rules. Understandably, these abusers undermine advertising’s credibility with consumers. We have an exciting opportunity for a Marketing Specialist to join our team and help grow our business! The successful candidate will be responsible for helping develop and manage marketing and communications projects for the Shumsky promotional business unit to help generate new business, support and grow existing business with current clients, while assisting with daily operations of the marketing group to ensure efficient, cost-effective workflow.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Assists Senior Marketing Specialist and Director of Marketing in developing company business collateral, business papers, and communication/marketing plans for the Shumsky business
  • Executes, analyzes and presents results of advertising and digital marketing
  • Develops and edits social media/blog content and presence on corporate websites, Intranet, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and
  • Understands, interprets, and reports campaign results from online site
  • Works with sales staff and customers in developing case studies, bios, references, and testimonials for online content, presentations and RFP
  • Manages this role within marketing calendars and project management software to reflect current priorities.
  • Works with Account Managers of online store programs to develop, execute, and measure success of email marketing messaging using email service provider platform. Sets up Google analytics tracking for new online stores and creates the metrics needed for quarterly customer reviews.
  • Coordinates sales staff tradeshow events with scheduling, advertising, and merchandising
  • Assists with preparation and staffing of onsite customer events.
  • Assists in RFP responses and customer presentations, as needed

 

The Person 

The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as proven project management skills.  He/she must be able to handle multiple requests and details simultaneously, while promptly responding to inquiries to ensure expectations are met.  This person will take initiative, seek out the appropriate sources needed to reach goals, and enjoy working in a close team environment.   This person will also possess an effective understanding of the latest technologies and how to apply them in marketing.

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related field and a minimum of 2 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient with database and online marketing management tools (Google Analytics). Knowledgeable in using Google docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and project management software
